Fremont and Dublin Acne Treatment

Acne is a skin condition that is common in young people. Even though it can get better with age, it is advisable to get acne treatment as soon as possible because if left untreated acne commonly leads to scarring.

Acne affects the tiny pores that cover the face, arms, back and chest and the oil glands attached to them.

What causes Acne?
Sebaceous glands are the tiny pores in the skin that produce oil to protect the skin. The activity of the sebaceous glands is influenced by the male hormone testosterone (women also have small amounts of this hormone). The sebaceous glands sometimes produce too much oil and this leads to a blockage in the tip of the gland.

The result is a white bump (whitehead) or a black bump (blackhead). They are called comedones. These blocked glands are much more likely to get inflamed. The inflammation is caused by bacteria which normally live harmlessly on the skin. The result is the redness and swelling associated with acne. This abnormal response is self limiting and eventually acne gets better without treatment, but there is no way of predicting how long this can take, and it may take many years or even decades!

 Acne can also leave scars which are permanent and are easier to prevent than to treat. 
  In the skin, the disease attacks two structures:

 1.The Pore through which the hairs emerge from the skin - here dead skin cells become more "sticky" and partially block the pore.

2.The oil or sebaceous gland - ---more oil is produced, which gives rise to a generally to an oily complexion. 

 Acne is caused by a combination of thickening of the skin, over production of sebaceous oil ,inflamation and  colonization of bacteria known as P.Acne.

Mild acne - is defined as the absence of scarring and a count of fewer than 10 blackheads and occasional superficial spots (pustules) that are confined to the face.  

 Moderate acne - is defined as mild scarring and 10 to 25 superficial spots (pustules) on the face and trunk.
